Interior trim is one of the two things Knack Woodcraft does most, alongside cabinet installation. We are finish carpenters: we hang the doors, run the base and casing, set the crown, build the wainscot, and fit the stair parts so miters close, reveals stay even, and the room looks finished instead of almost finished. Trim-only jobs are welcome, from a single room to a whole house.
Trim is where a remodel or a new basement either looks professional or does not. Walls are never straight, floors are never level, and openings are never square, so good trim work is mostly fitting: scribing to what is actually there, coping inside corners, and keeping every reveal the same from the first door to the last. That is the work we do every week.
What we install
- Baseboard, including taller and heavier profiles to replace thin builder-grade base
- Door and window casing, with stools and aprons, matched room to room
- Crown molding in kitchens, main living areas, and primary bedrooms, including built-up multi-piece crown
- Interior doors, pre-hung or slab, hung, shimmed, and adjusted to latch cleanly, with hardware
- Wainscoting, board and batten, and paneling for entries, dining rooms, hallways, and stairways
- Stair trim: skirt boards, handrails, newels, and balusters
- Fireplace mantels and surrounds
- Closet and pantry shelving
- Built-in and cabinet trim that ties cabinet runs and built-ins into the room
Replace builder-grade trim
The fastest way to make a production home feel custom is to change the trim. We pull the thin base and casing, repair what the removal exposes, and install heavier profiles with consistent reveals, then add crown where it earns its keep. Paint-grade MDF or finger-jointed stock keeps the cost down; poplar or a stain-grade species such as oak, alder, or maple is there when you want it.
Trim packages for builders and basement finishes
We take whole-house and whole-basement trim packages, including interior doors, and price them per opening or per linear foot so the number is predictable before we start. Builders and basement finishers use us because we show up on the day the schedule says, keep the punch list short, and do not leave the painter fixing trim. If you are a general contractor who needs a dependable finish carpenter for the Northern Colorado jobs, this is the page to send.
How a Knack trim install goes
- Walk the job or review your photos and plan; confirm profiles, species, door swings, and hardware
- Quote by the opening or the foot, with material supplied by us or by you
- Protect floors and finished surfaces before the first cut
- Hang doors first, then casing, then base and crown, so every joint lands in the right order
- Cope inside corners, scribe to walls and floors, and keep reveals identical across the house
- Set nails, fill, and caulk where the scope calls for it, so the trim is finish-ready
- Clean up and walk the finished rooms with you
Trim and cabinets from one crew
Because we install cabinets as well as trim, a kitchen or a basement can be finished by one crew instead of two. Crown that matches the cabinet crown, filler and end panels scribed to the same walls the base runs along, and a built-in that looks like it grew out of the room. If your project has both, ask for one quote and we will sequence it.

Trim installation FAQ
Do you do trim-only jobs, or does it have to be part of a cabinet project?
Trim-only is welcome and it is some of our most frequent work: a baseboard and casing upgrade, a crown package for a kitchen or main floor, a set of interior doors, a basement finish, or a stair rail. You do not need to buy or install cabinets with us to hire us for trim.
What trim do you install?
Baseboard, door and window casing, window stools and aprons, crown molding, interior doors (pre-hung and slab) with hardware, wainscoting, board and batten and paneling, stair skirts, handrails, newels and balusters, fireplace mantels and surrounds, closet and pantry shelving, and the trim that finishes built-ins and cabinet runs.
Can you replace builder-grade trim in my house?
Yes. Swapping thin builder base and casing for taller, heavier profiles and adding crown is one of the highest-impact upgrades a house can get for the money. We remove the old trim cleanly, repair what the removal exposes, and install the new profiles so corners and reveals are consistent room to room.
Do you supply the trim material or do I?
Either. We can quote the job with primed MDF or finger-jointed paint-grade stock, poplar, or stain-grade species such as oak, alder, or maple, or we can install material you have already bought. If you are choosing profiles, we will tell you what works with your door and window depths before you order.
Is the trim left ready for paint?
Our standard trim install is finish-ready: nails set, joints tight, caulk and filler where the scope calls for it. If you want it painted or stained as well, say so when you ask for the quote and we will include it or coordinate with your painter.
Do you work with builders and basement finishers on trim packages?
Yes. We take whole-house and whole-basement trim packages, including interior doors, and we can price per opening or per linear foot so your budget is predictable. We show up when the schedule says, keep the punch list short, and do not leave trim for the painter to fix.
What areas do you serve for trim installation?
We install trim across the Colorado Front Range: Denver Metro and Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Timnath, Greeley, Longmont, Wellington, Erie, Brighton, and Berthoud. If you are nearby and not listed, ask and we will tell you whether we can help.
How much does trim installation cost?
It depends on the profiles, the linear footage or number of openings, whether old trim has to come out, and the finish you want. Send us photos and rough measurements or a plan and we will return a clear, itemized quote. There is no charge for the quote.
